Spring 2024 - Seed Starting, Bed Preparation
a new season...
Spring brings with it the happiness of rejuvenation, longer daylight hours and more time outdoors. Here at the farm after a much deserved rest everything is starting to stir. The tunnel is getting prepped, the seeds are being started and the land is getting weeded to welcome the new plants come summer.
The joys of farming is such that nature gives second, third and many more chances to get something right. But these mistakes end up being costly sometimes. Humbled by that thought we start our journey towards another season.
The first seeds to be started are in the brassica family - cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage. While the greens are sown directly in the soil, the ones mentioned above get started and then transplanted.
It is always amazing that a tiny seed only the size of a mustard can produce a cauliflower, broccoli or cabbage.
Vegetables will be available for sale towards the end of April.
